Solent Harps is an adult music education programme using a collection of colourful lap harps to bring people together through shared music-making. The courses combine the fundamentals of music in a relaxed, supportive, and collaborative group setting, making harp learning accessible and enjoyable for adults of all backgrounds and abilities.

Designed specifically for adult learners, Solent Harps recognises that learning an instrument later in life is both rewarding and enriching. Group learning encourages connection, motivation, and confidence, allowing participants to learn from and support one another while developing musical skills at a comfortable pace.

Solent Harps believes that active participation is key to understanding and enjoying music. Sessions focus on learning by doing. - playing from the very start, supported by listening, rhythm work, playing along to backing tracks and simple ensemble playing. This approach helps learners develop musical awareness while enjoying the social and wellbeing benefits of making music together.

Group harp learning builds cooperation, concentration, and a sense of achievement. By exploring a variety of musical styles and techniques, learners gain practical skills alongside increased confidence, creativity, and enjoyment.

Kate is an experienced music educator and session facilitator with a PGCE qualification and extensive teaching experience. She creates a welcoming, encouraging environment where adult learners feel supported and empowered.
